After months of speculation on the name (Durango versus Magnum), Chrysler has unveiled a few sneak peek images of the redesigned Dodge Durango. After two generations as a body-on-frame SUV, the new Durango is expected to migrate to unibody construction based on the new Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Features and specifications are still unknown, but according to ConsumerReports.org, the all new 2011 Dodge Durango exterior features the sharp-edged design language seen on recent Dodge vehicles. Like the redesigned Ram pickup, the Durango will be distinguished with a forward-raking grille. The three-row SUV is expected to seat up to seven people. The powertrain is likely to be the same as the Grand Cherokee with a 3.6-liter V6 or 5.7-liter V8 with four-wheel drive, although official specs have not been released.
The little bit that you can see in the video above shows a much more car-like vehicle. The old Durango was a full-fledged, off-road capable SUV. The 2011 Dodge Durango, looking like a unibody crossover model, would become Chrysler's first new product after the ambitious launch of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2011 Durango will share the same basic architecture - meaning it has the same platform and a lot of parts in common - with Jeep Grand Cherokee.
